Boys hockey faces off against section rival Mathomedi

On Wednesday, Jan. 31 SPA boys hockey fell to arch-rival Mahtomedi 8-0. Ranked as the top team in the state, the Zephyrs came into the game with confidence but faced an equally confident and aggressive Spartan team.

Despite the rankings, captain Adam Zukowski shares that the team didn’t let the statistics scare them going into the game. “We knew they were going to be a challenging team to play, but we were hoping to hold them through the first period and make a comeback during the second,” Zukowski said.

While the outcome was not exactly what the Spartans were hoping for they held their own against a strong team. They didn’t allow a single goal in the third period despite 12 shots on net. “We are playing the toughest schedule so far,” Zukowski said. In the midst of a rebuilding year, the Spartans have been challenging themselves with hopes of a memorable run during sections.
